The Forward Together Declaration

Empowering Greater Washington for the Change We Need

Lester SalamonJoin nonprofit, corporate, community leaders, volunteers and Board Members from around our metro region to learn more about The Forward Together Declaration Lester Salamon, the convener of ‘Forward Together’, will facilitate and lead a discussion on short-term and long-term next steps to improve nonprofit performance, financing, and relations with government.  Learn about how national organizations as well as other regions are connecting with The Declaration - hundreds of civic, nonprofit and other leaders around the country have signed on to this new declaration to declare that the federal government can do more to help them weather the economic meltdown.

The Declaration says, "As concerned leaders in the nonprofit, or citizen sector, we have come together in this time of national crisis to renew our commitment to serve as partners in public service in addressing the challenges our nation faces.  We invite our colleagues in the nonprofit community, in organized philanthropy, in government, in the business world, and in academia, to join us in this effort so that together we can use the present crisis as an occasion to redeicate our nation to the principles of joint responsibility and concerted action that have long been the source of our strength.

Leaders around our region are seeking to improve government-nonprofit partnerships and develop new approaches to finance nonprofit work, including new tax incentives and methods to increase private capital investment in social ventures.
